About Me
Ever since I was able to pick up a pencil or a crayon, I have loved drawing and sketching. I grew up on a farm in Chesterfield County so much of my art centered around animals. In elementary school my art work was chosen for county competitions. I continued to take art classes throughout middle and high school. Afterwards, I would have loved to have attended VCU to major in art, but I was encouraged to enroll in a local business school.
After I married and started a family, I found that I really missed art in my life, so I enrolled in a drawing class at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. It felt so wonderful to be drawing again. But my children grew older and I became busy with their activities. My art had to be placed on the back burner. When the time came that my children were off to college and after the passing of my parents, I felt a deep void in my heart. My mother-in-law suggested that I should do something just for me like maybe an art class. I enrolled in a watercolor class at the Visual Art Center and after that I took pastel classes. I enjoyed drawing with charcoal and graphite, but the pastels gave me the chance to add color to my work. Those classes and the works I’ve accomplished have brightened my life in so many ways.
For the past eight years, I’ve been working with pastels. I am presently a member of a co-op at Uptown Gallery, located at 1605 West Main Street, Richmond, VA. I’ve had the opportunity to show my work in Richmond, VA at Johnston-Willis Hospital, The Visual Art Center, Art Works Gallery, Capital One, Crossroads Art Center, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Cultural Arts Center, Glen Allen, Va. and Side Street Gallery Colonial Heights, Va. For the past 2 years I have been also working with Alcohol Inks and Mixed Media. I enjoy painting still life, landscapes, animals, portraits and abstracts. I am also a member of the Metropolitan Richmond Artist Association.
